MSA Sports Saturdays Scholastic Starz for Week Six
Some of the Homecoming Queens at high schools in Western Pennsylvania are selected by way of vote, while other winners are decided randomly by whichever rose they select. Three schools celebrated homecoming weekend with Saturday high school football games instead of on the traditional Friday night. Here are the performers who may not have selected the correct rose, but they were definitely a thorn in the side of their opponents. Jordan Castelli and Bryan Milligan - Canon-McMillan

MSA Sports Friday Night HighLights for Week Six
October 8, 2016
The second half of the WPIAL football season began with a BANG...albeit a very wet bang. Or in the case of Class 3-A Allegheny Conference front running Keystone Oaks, the second half began with a POWE, as in newly eligible wide receiver Quran Powe. While he had a nice debut, it was his signal calling teammate who was one of the Week 6 standouts in a rainy edition of the HighLights. Let's begin to tip our drenched caps. Zane Dudek - Armstrong

Scholastic Notebook – 10/07/2016
It seems dual-threat quarterbacks are all the rage in high school football these days, from Western Pennsylvania to all around the country. Just take a look at the leading rushers in the WPIAL to see the effects that dual-threat QBs are having. Among the top 25 rushers in the WPIAL, four are quarterbacks – and two of the top seven are quarterbacks. Beaver quarterback Darius Wise is third in the WPIAL in rushing with 1,093 yards. Burrell’s Max Garda is seventh with 791. Wise is averaging 11 yards a carry. After those two, McGuffey’s Marcus Czulewicz is 15th with 702 yards rushing and North Allegheny’s Ethan Maenza 23rd with 584 yards, and he missed a game with an injury.

Chicks Picks for Week Six
October 6, 2016
Welcome to Week 6 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks attended her favorite yearly golf outing last week.  Though the event is for charity, Chick’s Picks – a scratch golfer – often gets bored rather easily with the lackluster play of average golfers.  While driving to the 16th hole, a very brief rain shower passed through, but then rewarded the golfers with a rainbow.

Big Game Hunting for Week Six 2016
The game we all circled back on our calendars when the 2016 WPIAL Football schedule came out is finally here. While normally I frown on even inter-conference games getting into Big Game Hunting, let alone an inter-classification game, this game is different. These two teams have long been the gold-standard for WPIAL football and their meeting this Friday at Neil Brown Stadium this week, cannot be denied as a big event for any fan of WPIAL football over the last two decades. I don’t imagine I will get emails complaining about my choices this week, but as a reminder, those should all now be directed to ChixPix1@msasports.net. For now let’s go Big Game Hunting!

Friday HighLights for Week Five
As Friday night of Week Five of the 2016 campaign began, most pre-games and kickoffs had to deal with passing rain showers. But as the games went on, the skies cleared, the temps dropped and the stars started to shine. However in a day and age when most of the star are found in the sky, or at least doing damage through the air, it was a night of success for those who love to pound on the ground as eight running backs in the district surpassed 200 yards rushing, including one massive record setting performance. Scholastic Notebook – 09/30/2016
September 30, 2016
Fort Cherry is in a drive for five. If the Rangers complete the drive, it will be the first time in 18 years. The Fort Cherrry football team is 4-0. The Rangers have been somewhat of a surprise this year after going 2-7 and 3-6 the past two seasons. Fort Cherry is likely to go to 5-0 because the Rangers play Friday night against West Greene, which is 1-4. This is the fourth time in nine seasons that Fort Cherry has started the season 4-0. The others were in 2008, 2009 and 2013. But every year, Fort Cherry lost its fifth game to Clairton. The last time Fort Cherry started 5-0 was 1998. That year, the Rangers finished the regular season with a 9-0 record before losing in the first round of the playoffs to Clairton.

Chicks Picks for Week Five
September 29, 2016
Welcome to Week 5 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks spends more time than she would care to admit trolling Amazon for her next potential purchase.  Last week, Chick’s Picks stumbled upon a plethora of crystal balls.  Tempted by the allure of the shiny, new prognosticating tools, Chick’s Picks decided that a bit of research would not hurt. Her guilty conscience set in right away, as she struggled with the desire to upgrade her equipment despite more than 15 years of loyalty to her current crystal ball.  Chick’s Picks decided to consult an expert – The Boss.

Big Game Hunting for Week Five 2016
Week Five and the drive to stay alive is no jive, if you can make it you will arrive, where you want to be. Keeping that sentence there because, as bad as it is, it did not trigger any grammatical or spelling errors in the Microsoft Word software and, I like it. Week Five has great matchups including a preview of what many think could be the eventual championship game in AAAAAA. Before we get to week five though, WOW!!!! What a night at Dormont Stadium in week four, Beaver and Darius Wise and, Keystone Oaks and Alex Smith put on a show for the ages. John Lee and I were there for the 77-49 win for the Bobcats and it was nothing short of breathtaking for everyone in attendance.
