One star football player and one star softball player have made their college choices this week. Pittsburgh Central Catholic wide receiver and defensive back Anthony Nixon has decided to play his college ball at Maryland while Shaler catcher Lauren Hackett will stay local and play at Robert Morris.

India McCoy is bar hopping like few girls have in the history of the WPIAL. McCoy is only a sophomore at Ambridge, but she already has established herself as one of the best high jumpers in league history. On Friday night at the Baldwin Invitational, McCoy tied a meet record by clearing 5 feet 8 inches.

Four More WPIAL Alums Selected in NFL Draft

Aliquippa and Pitt wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin was the only former WPIAL football player taken in the First Round of the 2011 NFL Draft on Thursday night. One more former high school football star from Western Pennsylvania was taken in Round Two on Friday before three more local players were picked on Saturday before the draft concluded.

Come late May, dont be surprised if the Elizabeth Forward baseball players turn into Champs champs. The Elizabeth Forward baseball program continues to rise under seventh-year coach Frank Champ. After a breakout season in 2010, the Warriors have been the most dominant Class AAA team so far in 2011.

WPIAL Football Recruiting: Pitt is NOT it for Pitts, Now Rutgers Bound

The recruiting fall out of Dave Wannstedt leaving as Pitt head coach last month continued when Woodland Hills High School running back/defensive back Lafayette Pitts made a verbal commitment to Rutgers. Last summer, Pitts made a verbal agreement to make Pitt his college choice, but changed his mind when the Panthers and Coach Wannstedt went their separate ways.

WPIAL Football Recruiting: The Price is Right for Ohio State

One of the top high school football seniors in the WPIAL has determined that Price is right for Ohio State. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Woodland Hills linebacker Ejuan Price has made a verbal commitment to Ohio State University. Price informed Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel of his decision Monday night as the coach visited the Price household.

A familiar name to pro football fans in Western Pennsylvania has been named the new head coach at a WPIAL Class AAAA school. Monday night, former Pittsburgh Steelers player Eric Ravotti was hired by the Fox Chapel School Board to be the Foxes new football coach.
