We all knew it was coming. A major change to the WPIAL high school sports landscape based on the PIAA's decision to increase from four to six classifications in basketball and softball, plus the increase in other sports such as soccer, volleyball and lacrosse. The WPIAL Board of Control approved the various steering committee's re-alignment suggestions starting with the 2016-2017 school year. This alignment also will be for the 2017-2018 school year. Are you ready for six classifications in Pennsylvania high school football? And boys basketball? And girls basketball? And baseball? And softball? Six classifications in all of those sports will be a reality in the 2016-17 school year. That was the gigantic news that came out of a PIAA board of directors meeting Wednes day in Mechanicsburg. Heading into the meeting, the main topic on the agenda was supposed to be a final vote on the expansion of classifications in football from four to six. The PIAA had already passed that in two other votes, and needed only to pass one more vote before going into effect for the 2016-17 season. That proposal easily passed by a 26-4 vote. As lacrosse continues to grow, it is still playing catch up to some of the hot bed areas around Pennsylvania. Sooner or later, a WPIAL boys or girls lacrosse team will win a state championship, but that day hasn't come yet and it will NOT happen this year either. In the end, Radnor won it's first state boys lacrosse title while Garnet Valley is celebrating back-to-back state crown after winning the schools fourth PIAA girls lacrosse championship in the last five years. The odd championship run continued for Mount Lebanon in D-I while it was back to the top after a couploe of year abscence in D-II for Hampton. The Blue Devils won a thriller over North Allegheny in double overtime to give the school their fourth boys lacrosse crown and keep the odd year streak going of titles in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015. Meanwhile, after dominating Division II in winning three of the first four district championships, the Talbots are back on top after knocking off top-seed Canon-McMillan. The two winners of the girls lacrosse finals are now three time district champions. The Shaler Titans captured a third consecutive Division II crown while last years runner-up in Division I, the Quaker Valley Quakers won their first D-I title after winning back-to-back D-II championships in 2009 and 2010. After broadcasting the WPIAL Boys Volleyball and Boys & Girls Lacrosse championships last week, we'll have end to end coverage of the battles for WPIAL diamond gold in both baseball and softball making this another memorable week this week here on the MSA Sports Network. We have WPIAL Baseball and Softball Championship action from CONSOL Energy Field and California University of Pennsylvania, along with all eight consolation games from both sports and District 9 baseball and softball postseason play. Mount Lebanon Beats North Allegheny in 2OT Thriller for Boys Lax D-I Gold

The Mount Lebanon Blue Devils scored with just six seconds left in double overtime to win the boys lacrosse championship 9-8 on Friday night. Mount Lebanon captured their fourth title in the last seven years. This was a rematch from last years semi final win when they defeated North Allegheny 10-9 also in double overtime.
Hampton Claims WPIAL Boys Lacrosse Division II Championship
Hampton last participated in boys Division 2 Lacrosse in 2012. The Talbots last won a WPIAL title the same year. After a 2 year jump up to Division 1, Hampton returned to familiar ground and found a familiar result, defeating top seeded Canon-McMillan 15-12 at Highmark Stadium to capture its 4th Division 2 championship.
