Upper St Clair and Peters Township are two of the most celebrated soccer programs in the WPIAL and every time the two squads do battle with each other, one can expect a classic. Monday night's matchup at USC was no different as the Indians edged the Panthers 2-1. After a bit of a feeling-out process in the early going, the Indians struck first in the 12th minute off of a corner kick. An accidental own goal was scored when the ball ricocheted off a USC defender into the net. The goal was credited to PT's Brianne Latsko, and the Indians took a 1-nil lead.This Week on the MSA Sports Network – 09/27/2015

WPIAL Alum Q&A – Clint McElheny

The latest installment of WPIAL Alum Q&A focuses on former Shaler Area High School and current Seton Hill University soccer player Clint McElheny. McElheny was a 2013 graduate of Shaler Area High School, where he was a standout on the pitch for the Titans. In high school, he was a three-year varsity letterwinner and earned all-section honors. While his playing accolades in high school were impressive, perhaps McElheny’s greatest accomplishment during his time at Shaler Area was earning a full-tuition scholarship.This Week on the MSA Sports Network – 09/21/2015

It was another solid performance for the Upper St. Clair girls soccer team, as the Panthers defeated their South Hills rival Bethel Park on Saturday 3-2. USC scored twice in less than two minutes in the first half to jump on top of the Blackhawks early. Landy Mertz found the net in the 14th minute, followed by Katherine Miller's tally in the 16th minute. Bethel Park would cut the lead to a goal in the 27th minute, as Kristi Roth found the net from 37-yards out on a free kick. Seneca Valley, MSA’s #3-ranked Class AAA boys soccer squad, battled to a scoreless tie with Section 2 rival Pine-Richland (0-1-1, 0-1-1) Thursday evening at NexTier Stadium in Harmony, Pennsylvania. The Raiders generated many offensive opportunities during the first half of action, including five shots on goal and six corner kicks, only to be stymied by the solid play of senior Pine-Richland goalkeeper Jake Reuter. Seneca Valley’s first half offense also featured a number of dangerous set piece kicks by senior midfielder T.J. Turley. Emotional Jefferson-Morgan Edges Char-Houston for WPIAL Class A Softball Gold

Maddie Ludrosky struck out a dozen batters and Morgan Simkovic doubled home the go-ahead run as Jefferson-Morgan topped Chartiers-Houston, 3-2, Thursday, winning the school's first WPIAL softball championship. The Rockets have won 11 straight games since losing to the Bucs April 1st. Chartiers-Houston had won seven in a row since Ludrosky no-hit the Bucs April 24th.

2015 Positive Athlete Awards On Wednesday, May 13th, 27 Western PA High School students were recognized at the John Heinz History Center by Hines Ward as “Positive Athletes” . These athletes were nominated by coaches, teachers, administrators, parents, and friends for their ability to meet the following criteria in their day-to day lives as athletes, students and members of their communities.Scholastic Notebook – 04/10/2015

Beaver Falls High School is trying to make sure the school’s 1975 baseball team won’t be forgotten. At a baseball game in two weeks, the ’75 team that won a WPIAL title will be honored before a Beaver Falls game. No one is quite ready to call this year’s Beaver Falls team championship caliber, but the Tigers are doing a pretty good job of grabbing some attention for themselves. It’s still extremely early in the WPIAL baseball season, but Beaver Falls is 3-0. That might not sound like much, but considering the past few years, it is a gigantic step forward for Beaver Falls.Scholastic Notebook – 01/09/2015

New Castle High School’s Malik Hooker apparently isn’t the only one who wears the athletic “genes” in the family. Hooker was one of the best two-sport athletes in the state the past two years, standing out in football and basketball. He now is a freshman football player at Ohio State, but is being redshirted this year. Two of Hooker’s younger brothers are now playing on the New Castle basketball. One of them is the team’s leading scorer in his first year as a starter. Marquel Hooker, a 5-foot-10 junior, is averaging 16.4 points a game. He never saw regular varsity time before this season.
