WPIAL Plays of the Week – WPIAL Championships 2014

On Friday, four WPIAL Champions were crowned at Heinz Field on the North Shore. Rivalries, big plays, late scores and massive individual performances highlighted a stellar day for District 7 at Heinz Field. Congratulations to Central Valley, Pine-Richland, South Fayette and Clairton on winning WPIAL crowns. Next up is the Road to Hershey. The NEC winds up regular season action with the annual Steel Bowl, but the focus shifts to playoff action in both Division II and III with two tournament games and a pair of ECAC bowl games.  Here are previews of ALL the games, including one on the Network:  NCAA DIVISION III PLAYOFFS/FIRST ROUND W & J(9-1) at Wittenberg(9-1)        Noon on WJPA 1450-AM and the MSA Sports Network It’s the 24th trip and third straight to the NCAA playoffs for the Presidents. The Presidents fell to Waynesburg 31-28 last week in overtime, ending dreams of an unbeaten season. W & J led the PAC in scoring at 45 points per game.

For all practical purposes, the Highway to Heinz is over. Up next is the WPIAL Football Championships at Heinz Field. The Steelers are scoring points at a blistering rate over their last three games at the big ketchup bottle. If the WPIAL Semifinals are indication, we could be in for a track meet on Friday. The Semis saw a rare challenge for the Bears of Clairton, a rare knockoff of the defending Class A State Champions and much, much more. District College Football Recap for Saturday, November 15th

Regular season play wraps up in the PAC with a big upset and the PSAC State Title Game comes down to the wire. Here are recaps of ALL the games, including two heard here on the Network. Waynesburg 31 – W & J 28 in overtime The 11th ranked Presidents scored in the final minute to force overtime but it was the Yellow Jackets who knock off their hated rivals in the PAC Backyard Brawl and remove W & J from the ranks of the unbeaten. Scott Lewis kicked a 34 yard field goal for the win after Kyle Richey blocked Blake Davis’ attempt for W & J.

The PSAC State Title Game comes to Slippery Rock, Rivarly Week takes place in the PAC and the NEC continues finish up conference play. Here are previews of ALL the games, incluidng two that can be heard in on the Network.  Westminster(3-6) at Geneva(3-6)   1pm on WBVP 1230-AM/WMBA 1460-AM and the MSA Sports Network It’s the rivalry known simply as “The Game” and has been played 117 times. The Titans lead the series 64-44-8. The Titans are 3-4 in the PAC, coming off a 41-7 victory over Grove City.

The second Saturday of November saw two local teams claim conference titles as the final week of regular season play comes up next week. Here are ALL the recaps from all the games, including two heard here on the Network: W & J 49 – Thiel 18 The #13 ranked Presidents clinched the PAC title and a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs with the win in Greenville. W & J also remains undefeated at 9-0 with only the backyard brawl at Waynesburg standing in the way of a perfect regular season.

The PSAC West Division Title and a berth in the State Championship Game against #5 Bloomsburg will be at stake this week in Week 10 of the district college football slate. Four teams are still alive for the title going into the final week of divisional play. California is at Mercyhurst, Gannon hosts IUP and Slippery Rock is at Clarion. Week 9 of the college football slate saw a big win for W & J in the PAC, Slippery Rock takes back a share of the lead in the PSAC West and a big Homecoming win in Lorretto for Saint Francis.  Here are recaps of ALL the games, including one heard here on the Network.  W & J 51 – Geneva 12 The road woes for the Golden Tornadoes continued while the #15 Presidents continue their quest for a PAC title. W & J led 37-0 at the half and never looked back in the win.

District College Football Preview for Saturday, November 1

Week 9 of the district college football slate was to see a battle for first place in the PSAC West with #25 California hosting Gannon on Saturday afternoon. But school officials announced Thursday afternoon that the Vulcans would forfeit the game to the Golden Knights after five players were arrested and charged after a violent incident outside of a local bar early Thursday morning. Interim President Geraldine Jones, in a release to the media, announced that she had asked that the game be cancelled. The five players have been suspended from the school and the PSAC informed Cal that they would forfeit the game.

Week 8 of the district college football slate saw an upset in the NEC, W & J continues to look for another PAC title and Geneva ended a long losing streak. Here are recaps of ALL the games, including two heard here on the Network: W & J 34 – Case Western Reserve 24 The 16th ranked Presidents remained unbeaten and on top of the PAC standings with the win at Cameron Stadium. Ryan Ruffing ran for 111 yards and scored four touchdowns in the win, three of those scores came in the second half, as the Presidents trailed 9-6 at the break.

Week eight of the district college football slate sees another Thursday night game and some tough battles in the PSAC West and PAC. Here are previews of ALL the games including two that can be heard on the Network. Edinboro (1-6) vs. Mercyhurst (3-4)   Thursday 7pm at Veterans Memorial Stadium The Fighting Scots are 1-5 in the PSAC West. Darren Massey made 10 catches last week against Gannon. It’s the second time this year that Massey had double digit catches. He has 57 catches, seven shy of the school single season record. Cody Harris will make his 41st start at quarterback for the Fighting Scots, he leads the NCAA in completion percentage. The defense allowed 601 yards against the Golden Knights.

Week 7 of the district college football season saw two PSAC West foes travel to Ann Arbor for a meeting in the Big House, a battle for first place in the Coal Bowl, and two more first place match ups in the PAC and NEC.  Here are recaps of ALL the games, including two heard here on the Network:  Mercyhurst 45 – Slippery Rock 23 In the Big House Battle at Michigan Stadium, the Lakers scored 28 points in the second half and held the Rock off the board to claim the win before over 15 thousand fans.

A Thursday night game, battles for first place in the NEC, PSAC West and PAC and two local teams making a trip to Michigan to play in the Big House. Here are previews of ALL the games, including two that can be heard here on the Network: Gannon (4-2) at Edinboro (1-5)     Thursday 7pm Thursday night football comes to Erie County. Gannon has lost two straight and is now 3-2 in the West Division. RB Brock Jones leads the offense, he is seventh in D-II at 142 rushing yards per game, he has scored eight touchdowns. QB Liam Nadler has thrown for over 14 hundred yards and has eleven touchdown passes.
