University Prep Claims Second City League Football Title
November 2, 2013
The University Prep Wildcats won their second Pittsburgh City League football championship in the three year history of the program with a 33-20 victory over the Allderdice Dragons Saturday afternoon at Cupples Stadium.University Prep is a combination of that school, along with Obama Academy and Science and Technology for football, they have qualified for the title game all three seasons, besting Allderdice in 2011 and falling to Perry last season.

WPIAL Girls Volleyball Semifinals Recaps 2013

All three of the top-seeds have done their duty and are headed to the final to play for gold on Saturday. A pair of #2-seeds will join them at Chartiers Valley along with the lone surprise team left in the district girls volleyball postseason as #7 Bethel Park will crash the top ranked party and shoot for the golden slipper on Saturday. #1 Kittanning 28, Shady Side Academy 27For the second week in a row, the top play is a controversial call. After pulling within one point on a Jared Brevard 7-yard touchdown run with under four minutes to play, Shady Side Academy would be penalized for excessive celebration. The personal foul pushed the extra point to 35 yards out, a kick that Dan Marous would push wide left. The final weekend of October brings wind, rain and tough conditions, just how football players like it.Slippery Rock and Cal both came up with huge wins in the PSAC, setting up a battle next week at the Rock for the West Division title.W & J wins as well, the Presidents control the PAC race. And a quarterback making his first NCAA start leads Robert Morris to a comeback in the NEC.Here are recaps of ALL the games:Slippery Rock 44 – Edinboro 20 The 22nd ranked Rock used the ground game to win their fifth straight game. Week 7 of the local college football scene saw an upset in the PSAC and the battle for the PAC title looms large with W & J and Geneva posting wins. Carnegie Mellon traveled to Georgia to meet a D-1 foe and the Steel City Showdown turned into a special teams battle in Moon Township.Here are recaps of all the games from Saturday:Slippery Rock 34 – Clarion 13 The Rock led 20-0 at the half and racked up 506 yards of offense in the Homecoming win at Thompson-Mihalik Stadium. With nine WPIAL games decided by four points or less this week, there was definitely no shortage of big plays. Next week, we move to the "Stretch Run" of the 2013 season. But first, let's reminisce on a fantastic sixth week of high school football.  #1 Bethel Park 21, Penn Hills 19 So often does a missed extra point come back to haunt a team. Penn Hills found that out the hard way on Friday night. After a Marshall Thompson miss on a PAT and a blocked field goal, Penn Hills would find themselves down 21-19 following a Ja’Mar Gee touchdown reception with 10 seconds left. But the Blackhawks’ defense would come up big on the two-point conversion, coming away with a massive AAAA Southeasten Conference victory.

It was an exciting day of college football around Western Pennsylvania with a pair of double overtime games, a huge offensive performance by the Rock and IUP takes the Coal Bowl for the first time from Cal.Here are recaps of ALL the games:Slippery Rock 58 – Mercyhurst 34 The Rock racked up 609 yards of offense in the win. Transfer Teddy Blakeman ran for three scores and caught a td pass, he also threw for a touchdown.
