And then there was one, IUP is the only college football team in the district still alive and playing on this Thanksgiving weekend. Here is a preview of that matchup. NCAA Division II Playoffs-Second Round: IUP(11-1) at New Haven(10-0)  Noon The 11th ranked Crimson Hawks defeated Shepherd 27-17 at home last week in the first round.  IUP won the PSAC title with a win over Shippensburg 41-10 in the State Title Game two weeks ago. The win cemented a playoff bid for the Crimson Hawks, their 15th in school history.

The NCAA playoffs kicked off in Division II and III, regular season action came to a conclusion in the NEC.Here are recaps of all the games, including one heard here on the Network:NCAA Division II Playoffs/First Round:  IUP 27 - Shepherd 17 The 11th ranked Crimson Hawks move onto the second round with the home victory at George P. Miller Stadium. De'Antwan Williams carried 30 times for 152 yards and a score as IUP moves on to the second round. IUP scored first, taking advantage of a Jihad Rasheed fumble, Greg Meisner recovered and set up the Crimson Hawks at the 28 yard line. Mike Box hit Terill Williams 5 plays later for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

Now that the season is over, on to the post-season for Division II and III schools as IUP and W & J begin their quest for a national championship.In the Northeast Conference, Wagner looks to wrap up the conference title and hold defending champion Albany at bay. Duquesne, Robert Morris and Saint Francis will all close out their season.Here are previews of ALL the games, including one that can be heard here on the Network:NCAA Division II Playoffs/1st Round: Shepherd(8-2) at IUP(10-1)  Noon The Rams clinched the WVIAC title with a 49-23 at Fairmont State last week. Shepherd last made the playoffs in 2010, when they made the national semifinals. Shepherd has won 3 straight games coming into the playoffs.

NCAA Division II and III Football Playoff Fields Announced
November 12, 2012
Two district college teams have qualified for the 2012 NCAA football playoffs.In Division II, Indiana University of Pennsylvania will make their first trip to the post-season since 2007. The IUP Crimson Hawks, 10-1, are seeded third in Super Region I and will host 8-2 Shepherd. This match up is a rematch of a 2007 Quarterfinals game won by the Rams. Shepherd won the WVIAC title, clinching a berth with a victory Saturday over Fairmont State. In Division III, 8-2 Washington & Jefferson received the automatic berth from the PAC after beating Waynesburg Saturday. The Presidents will travel to 9-1 Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Johns Hopkins was the Centennial Conference champion. That game can be heard right here on the MSA Sports Network.

It's the final week of the regular season for Division II and Division III, while the NEC has one more week.The PSAC will have the State Title Game with an NCAA berth likely to the winner, the PAC has Rivarly Week with the Backyard Brawl deciding the conference title.Here are previews of ALL the games, including 3 that can be heard on the network.Bloomsburg(9-1) at Slippery Rock(6-4)  1 pm on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network. # 12 Bloomsburg is fighting for a NCAA playoff berth and needs a win to cement that spot. The Huskies defeated West Chester 24-23 last week. Bloomsburg's only loss is to Shippensburg. The Huskies are 4th in the NCAA Super Region 1 rankings.

The PSAC race took an interesting turn with the 13th ranked Vulcans going down to defeat, Mercyhurst and IUP picked up wins, setting up a 3-way battle to go to the PSAC title game in a couple of weeks.Waynesburg remains unbeaten, the Yellow Jackets will have a week to rest up before the battle with W & J for the PAC title.Here are recaps of all the games:Slippery Rock 28 - California 26 The Rock survived two blocked punts and a pair of fumbles late to hand the 13th ranked Vulcans a loss in back to back seasons. The win was the third straight for SRU and scrambles the PSAC West Division race going into the final week.

Some great games this weekend on the local college football slate, Waynesburg holds on to their unbeaten record, an overtime thriller in the PSAC and could Lock Haven actually win a game for the first time in 50 tries.Here are recaps of all the games:Slippery Rock 38 - Edinboro 31 in overtime Nigel Barksdale hit LaQuinn Stephens-Howling for a touchdown in the first overtime, the Rock defense held and Slippery Rock send the crowd home happy on Homcoming Day at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium with the win. The Rock defense did the job when it had to all day, sacking Edinboro QB Cody Harris 9 times.

A busy week in district college football as the PSAC took a break from divisional games for crossover action, the PAC saw some wild finishes and Saint Francis and Duquesne met for the 99th time in the NEC.Here are recaps of all the games played Saturday:Kutztown 56 - Slippery Rock 49 SRU lost it's 2nd straight game, fumbling 5 times, which led to 28 Kutztown points and a victory for the Golden Bears at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Saturday night. QB Nigel Barksdale made his first career start and figured in on 5 Rock touchdowns in the loss. Kevin Morton returned to the Kutztown lineup and threw 4 touchdown passes, the Golden Bears led 42-21 at the half.
