It was rare air in the 2009 District 8 football finals as Pittsburgh City League powers Perry and Brashear were spectators for a game they were often participants in. However all was back to normal in the 2010 City League title game as the Commodores and Bulls battled for gold at Cupples Stadium on the South Side. There was little drama though in the finals as Perry cruised to a 32-0 whitewash of Brashear. Here is a look back at the Pittsburgh City League in 2010.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM CITY LEAGUE FOOTBALL IN 2010:

* The Perry D-8 championship in 2010 was the 16th City League gridiron title for the Commodores and their first since they had won six straight from 2000 through 2005. The Commodores won back-to-back football titles in 1997 and 1998 and won three straight from 1989 through 1991. Perry's very first City League football crown was won nearly 80 years ago in 1932.

* It was another quick trek in the PIAA football playoffs for District 8 representatives. The Oliver Bears fell in Round One of the state playoffs to Brockway 44-14 while champion Perry got bounced in the First Round of the Class AAAA state postseason with a 35-26 loss to State College. The Bears are the last City League team to advance to the PIAA Quarterfinals, after they upset Hollidaysburg 20-19 in the state opening round game in 2006.

* 2010 marked the final season for the Schenley Spartans. Schenley won eight City League football crowns in 1924, 1925, 1926, 1929, 1943, 1950, 1999 and two years ago in 2009 when they beat Oliver in a double overtime thriller 34-32.

* 2010 also marked the final season for the Peabody Highlanders. Peabody won seven City League football crowns in 1933, 1953, 1962, 1971, 1974, 1978 and their most recent title was in 1994. The Highlanders were co-champs with Westinghouse in 1976.
