The District 10 committee has granted Farrell’s request to leave that PIAA district, moving the Mercer County school one step closer to rejoining the WPIAL.
However, Farrell has more steps to climb.
Farrell needs permission from the WPIAL and PIAA to complete the transfer. WPIAL executive director Scott Seltzer said again Wednesday that the league will consider the wishes of its current members before deciding whether to welcome Farrell back.
Farrell left the WPIAL in 2006.
The District 10 committee voted 14-0 to release Farrell with one abstention, according to reporters at Wednesday’s meeting. The WPIAL board met earlier in the day and took no action related to Farrell. Seltzer said the WPIAL could consider a request from Farrell at its Jan. 16 meeting.
The PIAA board meets Jan. 24.
The Farrell school board voted Nov. 13 to request a release from District 10, starting the process of rejoining the WPIAL.
