District 31 American Legion baseball race coming down to the wire

It might take until the final day of the regular season to see who is going to be the District 31 American Legion champion and how teams finish in the standings.
All nine teams will make the playoffs this season. The eighth- and ninth-place teams will battle Monday in the pigtail-round game. Then the quarterfinals will begin Tuesday.
Latrobe squeezed out a 6-5 win against Homer City in a key game Wednesday. The win put the Jethawks (12-4) in first place, a half-game ahead of idle Hempfield East (11-4-1).
Bushy Run (10-3-1) stayed in the hunt by defeating Young Township (4-9), 14-3. Bushy Run will host Mt. Pleasant for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Lower Burrell (8-7-1) moved into fourth place with a 13-6 victory against Unity (5-11). Lower Burrell now has won four consecutive games and will travel to Young Township on Thursday.
Murrysville (7-8) downed Mt. Pleasant (2-13-1), 10-0, and set up a big doubleheader at Homer City on Thursday.
The league will be holding a playoff seeding meeting Sunday.
Here is a look at the remainder of the regular-season schedule:
Thursday: Mt. Pleasant at Bushy Run (dh), 4 p.m.; Murrysville at Homer City (dh), 6 p.m.; Lower Burrell at Young Township, 6 p.m.
Friday: Unity at Latrobe, 2 p.m.
Saturday: Hempfield East at Young Township (dh), Lower Burrell at Bushy Run, 11 a.m.
Sunday: Murrysville at Young Township, noon; Unity at Young Towship, 2 p.m.; Bushy Run at Latrobe.
