After the first day of the PIAA tennis championships in Hershey on Friday, only the Gateway contingent was left standing.

The Gators’ Adam Memije in Class 3A singles and the team of Zidaan Hassan and Logan Memije in Class 3A doubles were the only WPIAL entries to advance to Saturday’s semifinals.

Adam Memije didn’t drop a set in two matches, beating Lower Merion’s Nathan Dolgushev, 6-4, 6-3, in the first round and West Chester East’s Ben Gao, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.

Hassan and Logan Memije took care of Cedar Crest’s Joe Shkreli and Issac Wolfe, 6-1, 6-1, before ousting Penncrest’s Brady Huggett and Flynn Hollinger, 6-1, 7-6 (4).

The Class 3A semifinals are set for 8 a.m. Saturday with the finals to follow at 1 p.m.
