Hempfield girls win back-to-back state bowling championships

Hempfield has won back-to-back Pennsylvania high school bowling girls team championships.

The Spartans were the top team in qualifying and swept Shikellamy in the finals to win the the program’s fourth state title Saturday in Lancaster.

Milton won the boys championship.

Hempfield was tops in qualifying (4,082), followed by Shikellamy (3,872), McDowell (3,805) and Plum (3,758).

In the quarterfinals, Plum swept McDowell, 155-140 and 216-167. In the semifinals, Shikellamy swept Plum, 210-129 and 210-166.

In the finals, Hempfield swept Shikellamy, 165-162 and 212-157.

In the boys stepladder finals, Eastern York beat Pennsbury 2-1 in the quarterfinals and Milton defeated Eastern York 2-1 in the semifinals and Elizabethtow 2-0 in the finals.
