With six shooters hitting the 100 mark, Hempfield became the fifth school to win seven WPIAL team rifle championships Tuesday at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club.

The Spartans (798-64x) finished ahead of Butler (798-57x), West Greene (796-56x) and Armstrong (795-63x). The top four teams advance to the state championships.

Trinity, Mt Lebanon, Bethel Park, Waynesburg, McGuffey and Upper St Clair rounded out the top 10.

Chloe Snyder led the way for Hempfield with a score of 100-9x. Four Spartans shooters – Charlotte Auckerman, Caitlyn Andree, Izabell Orczeck and Mackenzie Thomas – scored 100-8x, followed by Abigail Hice with a 100-7x and Taylor Miller at 99-9x.

Four shooters had perfect scores of 100-10x: Armstrong’s Riley Wasson, Butler’s Jackson Jungling, Mt. Lebanon’s Alexander Chandran and West Greene’s Savanna Somerville.

All seven of Hempfield’s team championships have come since 2010. Five have been won since 2018.

Munhall is the all-time leader with 23 titles, followed by Trinity with 18 and Mt. Lebanon and Woodland Hills with seven each.

The WPIAL individual rifle championships are scheduled for Thursday.
