Melissa Riggins, a freshman at Shady Side Academy, brought home three medals from the WPIAL track and field championships two weeks ago. She won the 800- and 1,600-meter races and anchored the winning 1,600 relay team.

She then won gold in the 800 and 1,600 at the PIAA championships May 26 at Shippensburg and helped the mile relay team to a fourth-place finish. She is also on the soccer team.

Here's a closer look at this week's Spotlight Athlete:

The Grand Canyon.

What's your favorite TV show?

I don't watch much television, but I like “Fixer Uppers” on HGTV.

Who would be your dream date?

Shawn Mendes.

George Washington, soccer player Julie Johnson and my grandmother.

What movie could you watch over and over?

“Nerve.”

Where would you like to go that you've never been before?

New Zealand.

Definitely ribs. I love ribs.

What three items have to be in your refrigerator?

Clementines, baby spinach salad and eggs.

People would be surprised to know that …

I love to dance even though I'm awful at it.
