High school roundup for April 1, 2024: Hempfield beats Central Catholic to go 5-0

Ethan Minerva singled, doubled, tripled and drove in two runs to lead Hempfield to a 13-2 victory over Central Catholic in Section 2-6A baseball Monday.

Carson Shuglie had a double and two RBIs and Max Short and Quinn Wilkins each drove in a pair of runs for the Spartans (5-0, 1-0). Gavin Kelly went 2 for 2 with a triple for the Vikings (3-2, 0-1).

Mohawk 7, Neshannock 2 – Jay Wrona singled, doubled and drove in two runs and Aidan Bowser had two hits and two RBIs for Mohawk (4-0, 3-0) in a Section 1-3A win. Bobby Fadden had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors. Anthony Eakin went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for Neshannock (1-3, 0-1).

Softball

Laurel 6, Mohawk 3 – Addie Deal doubled and drove in two runs while winning pitcher Autumn Boyd had two hits and an RBI to lead Laurel (2-2) to a nonsection win. Addy Moskal went 3 for 3 with a triple for Mohawk (3-1).

Boys volleyball

Canon-McMillan 3, Mt. Lebanon 0 – Luke Bockius had 16 kills and five aces and Ben Kopec and Liam Reamer added four kills apiece as Canon-McMillan (3-0) won a nonsection matchup.
