High school roundup for April 12, 2019: Central Catholic takes down Butler

Top-ranked Central Catholic scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to help secure a 5-2 victory over Butler in a Section 1-6A baseball game Friday night at Kelly Automotive Park.

Brian Dzuban had a double and two RBIs, and Conor Deasy and Zach Palmer also had extra-base hits for the Vikings (8-3, 1-2).

Colby Anderston allowed four hits and struck out 10 in 4 2/3 innings but took the loss for Butler (2-7, 1-2).

Pine-Richland 10, Allderdice 0 (5 inn.) — Alec Swartout threw a one-hitter with six strikeouts as No. 5 Pine-Richland (8-3, 3-0) won in Section 1-6A. Troy LaNeve and Matt Schietroma each had two RBIs.

Bethel Park 7, Mt. Lebanon 4 — Eric Chalus had an RBI double to help No. 4 Bethel Park (6-2, 3-1) win in Section 3-6A. Evan Bromley earned the victory.

Uniontown 3, West Mifflin 1 (8 inn.) — John Harim singled home two runs in the top of the eighth inning to give Uniontown (2-4, 2-3) a Section 3-4A win. Jake Walker had two doubles in the win. Harim allowed three hits and had eight strikeouts in the victory.

Neshannock 7, South Side 4 — Matt DuBois went 4 for 4 with three doubles and two RBIs for Neshannock (7-1, 3-1) in a Section 2-2A victory. Chris Pallerino pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (all unearned) on five hits. Gerald Taylor picked up the save in relief. Garrett Wilson had two RBIs for the Rams (1-4-1, 0-4).

Armstrong 13, Karns City 3 (5 inn.) — Noah Cyphert and Garrett Kelley homered, and Tanner Bordick had three RBIs as Armstrong (6-3) won a nonsection game.

Softball

Peters Township 7, Canon-McMillan 5 — Madison Morgan and Alex Bondi each had home runs to lift Peters Township (6-5, 4-3) to a Section 1-6A victory. Olivia Ulam had three RBIs for No. 2 Canon-McMillan (5-4, 4-3).

Plum 11, Gateway 0 (5 inn.) — Francesca Beighley was 3 for 3 with five RBIs, and Gabby Fischetti was 4 for 4 with three RBIs to lead Plum (7-2, 6-1) to a Section 2-5A win. MacKenzie Lake also was 4 for 4 with two doubles. Melanie Mienke tossed a one-hitter.

South Park 12, Steel Valley 1 (6 inn.) — Jess Dean was 4 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs, and Charlyn Blackburn was 4 for 4 with two RBIs to help South Park (7-2, 4-2) win in Section 3-3A. Winning pitcher Julie Shinavski knocked in three runs, and Taylor Glowa had two RBIs.
