High school roundup for Feb. 8, 2025: Penn-Trafford tops Upper St. Clair to finish regular season undefeated

Torrie DeStefano scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Penn-Trafford overcame a slow first half to cap off a perfect regular season by beating Upper St. Clair, 59-57, in nonsection play Saturday afternoon.
Hanna Weishaar and Lauren Marton contributed 12 points each for Penn-Trafford (22-0), which trailed by 13 points at halftime. Rylee Kalocay scored a game-high 26 points and was a perfect 11-for-11 at the foul line for Upper St. Clair (15-6) while Meredith Huzjak added 15 points.
Cathedral Prep 46, North Allegheny 42 – Addie Biel scored 16 points and Seanna Thrower had 15 points as Cathedral Prep used a big fourth quarter to defeat the host Tigers (9-12) at the Battle at North Allegheny. Jessica Beveridge added 13 points for Cathedral Prep, which outscored North Allegheny 25-10 in the final quarter to erase an 11-point deficit. Vange Balouris led North Allegheny with 16 points and Rosalia Varlotta added 13 points.
Indiana 41, Plum 39 – Emily Betsinger had 12 points for Indiana (17-5) in its nonsection win over Plum (9-12). Laken Kugler added 11 points for Indiana, which trailed by five at halftime. Riley Stephans paced Plum with 14 points while Serena Carnahan and Tamia West added 10 points each.
South Fayette 65, Seneca Valley 30 – Ryan Oldaker scored 22 points and Juliette Leroux added 15 as South Fayette (21-1) won a matchup of section champs. Gracie Cato scored 10 points to lead Seneca Valley (15-6).
Washington 63, Monessen 30 – Olivia Woods scored 23 points to lead Washington (8-13) to the nonsection win against Monessen (5-15). Kyndra Wynn added 13 points for Washington while Faith Partozoti contributed 11 points. Na’Jaziah led Monessen with 14 points and Madison Johnson had 12 points.
Boys basketball
Erie 36, Central Catholic 34 – Julius Jeffries and Marquawn Darnell scored 10 points each to lead Erie at the Clash of Champions at New Castle. Calvin Vento scored 10 points to lead Central Catholic (13-8).
Farrell 59, Lincoln Park 54 (OT) – Juju Phillips scored 21 points to lead Farrell past Lincoln Park (2-20) at the Clash of Champions at New Castle.
Jeannette 71, Bentworth 25 – Markus McGowan scored 17 points and Jayce Powell added 16 as Jeannette (19-2,12-2) won in Section 1-2A play. Christopher Harper led Bentworth (10-10, 7-7) with nine points.
Kiski School 65, Sewickley Academy 47 – Jake Wright scored 21 points to lead Kiski School at the Battle at North Allegheny. Mamadou Kane scored 15 points to lead Sewickley Academy (17-4).
Knoch 62, South Allegheny 59 – Jackson Bauman scored 19 points, hitting the 1,000 point mark for his career, to lead Knoch at The Battle at North Allegheny. Brody Bauman added 12 points for the Knights (16-6), who also saw Teegan Finucan hit the 1,000-point mark earlier this week. Cam Epps and Drew Cook each scored 21 for South Allegheny (19-3).
Meadville 60, North Allegheny 47 – Sam Burchard scored 23 points to lead Meadville past the host Tigers at the Battle at North Allegheny. John Nestor scored 14 points and Jahlil Archer added 10 for North Allegheny (7-15).
New Castle 57, Aliquippa 56 – Ralphie Blundo scored 18 points and Damian Harrison added 15 as the host Red Hurricanes (18-3) won a matchup of section champs at the Clash of Champions at New Castle. Joshua Pratt scored 27 and Qa’lil Goode added 19 for Aliquippa (17-4).
Portersville Christian 53, Cheswick Christian Academy 51 – Josh Tresky scored 24 points and Adden Charles added 20 as Portersville Christian (9-0) won a matchup of division champs in the Southwestern Christian Athletic Conference. Brady Rochkind had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Cheswick Christian (10-0), which played without three starters due to illness or injury and had a 14-game winning streak snapped.
Serra Catholic 78, Waynesburg 53 – Owen Dumbroski scored 31 points to become Serra Catholic’s all-time leading scorer, leading the Eagles (18-3) to a nonsection win. Mark Johnson added 16 points and Jake Holmes chipped in 11. Dane Woods had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Waynesburg (9-11). Jack Ricciuti had 12 points and Cole Headlee added 10 for the Raiders.
Shaler 79, Pine-Richland 76 – Jordan Epps scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures for Shaler (9-13) in a nonsection win. Deron Nixon added 17, Josh Berger 12 and Nick Perez 10 for the Titans. Emery Moye led Pine-Richland (6-15) with 26 points. Grant Spacciapolli added 13, Alex Kastner and Eli Catalano 12 and Zach Kenny 10 for the Rams.
South Fayette 54, Obama Academy 46 – Tyson Wright scored 18 points to lead South Fayette (15-7) past Obama Academy (9-8) in nonsection play. Elijah Rawlings tallied 15 points for Obama Academy.
Washington 43, Monessen 34 – In nonsection play, William Callan had 15 points as Washington (6-14) beat Monessen (13-8). Austin Chaney added 10 points for Washington while TyVaughn Kershaw scored 14 points to lead Monessen (13-7).
