High school roundup: McGuffey tops Frazier in Legends Classic

Marshall Whipkey threw a pair of second-half touchdowns passes and Adam Townsend ran for two scores to lift McGuffey to a 28-13 victory over Frazier at the Western Pa. Legends Classic on Saturday at North Allegheny.

Townsend gained 134 yards, including TD runs of 32 and 2 yards.

Whipkey threw for 78 yards, including 47- and 7-yard TD strikes to Brendan Crowe for McGuffey (1-0).

JD Celaschi threw for 175 yards and a score for Frazier (0-1).

Brentwood 32, Carrick 8 — Michael Foligno threw for 266 yards and four touchdowns as Brentwood (1-0) defeated Carrick (0-1) in nonconference play. Austin Veatch caught six passes for 164 yards and touchdowns of 16, 58 and 52 yards. Evan Vickless added 72 rushing yards and a 27-yard scoring run in the victory. Brentwood's defense held Carrick to 142 yards of offense and recorded nine sacks. Damon Brown scored Carrick's only touchdown on an 85-yard kickoff return in the second quarter.

South Side Beaver 28, OLSH 21 — Jordan Bruce scored on a 6-yard run with under 30 seconds left in the game to give South Side Beaver (1-0) the victory over OLSH (0-1) at the Western Pa. Legends Classic at North Allegheny. OLSH tied the game earlier in the fourth quarter on Tyler Bradley's 74-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Schnarre. Thomas Botkin paced South Side's offense with 114 rushing yards on 22 carries.

Western Beaver 43, Avella 0 — In nonconference play, Louie Hapach ran for two touchdowns to lead Western Beaver (1-0) to the shutout over Avella (0-1).
