Elizabeth Forward (11-4, 6-2) has struggled at times this season with leaving runners stranded on base. Through four innings on Friday it appeared that trend would continue. However, the Warriors were determined to buck the trend, scoring six runs in the 5th and 6th innings and defeating Thomas Jefferson 7-3 in a gigantic AAA Section 3 matchup.

Thomas Jefferson (7-6, 5-3) got two runs in the first, thanks in part to a fielding error, but would only score one run – a solo home run by Amanda Wrobleski – the rest of the way.

Courtney Hrabosky would score in the bottom of the first on a fielding error as she stole second, making it 2-1 TJ after one inning. TJ would push the lead to 3-1 with the Wrobleski homer in the top of the 4th.

However, the bottom of the 5th would prove to be the difference, as the inning saw three walks, two hits and three runs scored, including two on a hit by Jen Welsh, giving EF their first lead of the game at 4-3.

They would tack on three more in the 6th, as three hits and an error would factor into runs by Keefer, Kelsey Havel and Caitlyn Arico, a freshman who came up big with a 2-RBI single, pushing the EF lead to 7-3.

Portia McBride, who has pitched every inning for the Warriors this season, pitched all seven in this one, giving up seven hits, striking out four and only allowing two earned runs.

The win pushes the Warriors into a tie for first place with Belle Vernon, who EF beat 5-0 just ten days ago.

Thomas Jefferson though still has a great shot at making the playoffs with a game and a half lead over South Park for the final playoff spot in the section.

A South Park loss on Saturday to West Mifflin would clinch a playoff spot for Elizabeth Forward, who are looking to make the playoffs for the first time in three years.
