In the very first game at a brand new softball field, the Lady Black Hawks of Bethel Park opened up the new digs with a win, a 6-3 section victory over Brashear. The offense came alive, especially late in the game as this young, up and coming Black Hawks team scored a very important early season win.

Bethel Park struck for the first run of the game in the 2^nd inning. Sammi Wozniak notched a 1-out triple and would reach home thanks to heads up base running on Kaitlyn Campbell’s groundout. When Brashear’s pitcher, Miranda Piccolino, threw the ball to first to retire Campbell, Wozniak immediately broke for the plate and slid in safely to give her team an early 1-0 lead.

The Black Hawks next run came in the 4^th. Wozniak drew a lead off walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. Hayley Lazzari walked to put runners on first and second with one out. Molly Welsh came to the plate and got a clutch base hit to bring home Wozniak, putting Bethel Park up 2-0.

The Lady Hawks would add two more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. In the 5^th inning, Julia Sherwin and Lexi Parinella each singled, putting runners on 1^st and 2^nd with two out. Then, Campbell came up to the plate and laced a triple into center field, scoring Sherwin and Parinella. Parinella’s run would eventually be the game-winner.

In the sixth, Bethel Park added two more as a Sherwin single brought home Welsh and Jenn Ruminski, putting the Lady Hawks up 6-0 heading into the final frame.

The Lady Black Hawks starter, sophomore Taylor Andres, was strong throughout for Bethel Park, but struggled a bit in the 7^th inning as Brashear tried to mount a comeback. Three straight singles led to Karlee Ralston driving in Angela Stoeher to give Brashear their first run of the game. Carlie Sittig kept the inning going with a single of her own, which would drive in Anna Bruecken and Ralston. Just like that, Brashear was within three and would get the tying run to the plate, but Piccolino bounced back to Andres to end the game.

Andres had a strong out for Bethel Park despite battling a fierce wind throughout the afternoon. She went the distance, giving up three runs and scattering ten hits while walking three and striking out five.

The Lady Black Hawks get the first win at the new high school softball field and also get a very important win over a section opponent. With the victory, Bethel Park moves to (2-3) in Class AAAA Section 4 and rides momentum into their next game, a Thursday night matchup with rival Baldwin.
