In a battle of two undefeated Class A Section 4 softball foes, the South Side Beaver Rams responded with a resounding 10-run victory over Union Monday afternoon. The Rams pounded out 12 hits and scored in every inning in the five inning victory over the Scotties.

South Side Beaver wasted no time getting onto the scoreboard after starting pitcher Michelle Klein struck out the side in Union’s first at bat.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Sarah Androlia singled and then went to third base on a base hit by freshman Connor McGaffic.  Androlia then scored on a wild pitch by Union pitcher Ariel Junkin, giving the Rams the only run they would need on the afternoon.

They were far from done scoring, however, as they got an RBI single from Lacey Weible in the second inning and then broke the game open with a 3-run third inning.  In that decisive 3rd inning, the Rams sent 9 hitters to the plate and got RBI singles from Toni Yacoviello and Tori Conti.  The third run of the inning scored courtesy of a Union error.

Back-to-back doubles from McGaffic and Michelle Klein would allow South Side to run their lead to 6-0 in the fourth inning.

The Rams then would string a pair of doubles from Conti and Kaitlyn Work together with a walk, a Union error and, ultimately, a sacrifice fly to score the four runs they needed to enact the 10-run rule and win the game in five innings.

Klein worked all five innings for the Rams in the circle and was masterful in her performance. Already with a no-hitter to her credit, Klein held the Scotties to just two hits in five innings while striking out eight.

With the win, the Rams are now 5-0 in Section 4 and will now face the only other undefeated team in their section, the Neshannock Lancers Tuesday afternoon.
