The West Mifflin softball team scored two runs in the sixth inning to break a tie game en route to a 4-2 victory against McKeesport on senior recognition day at West Mifflin High School.

In the triumph, the home standing Lady Titans displayed strong pitching and defense, as well as potent bats, as they belted a pair of home runs.

Tiana Sekowski, a freshman, drilled a ball over the center field fence with two outs in the bottom of the second to put the first run on the board for West Mifflin.

After both teams were held scoreless in the third, McKeesport took its first lead of the tilt in the fourth, when Tamia Little-Dreher plated two runs on a triple to right field. West Mifflin hurler Amber Cook stranded Little-Dreher at third, though, to keep her team’s deficit at just one run.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Titans deadlocked the score on a solo blast that cleared the center field fence off the bat of senior Lauren Ackerman.

The Titans notched the decisive runs in the sixth, when Cook drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a double by Kacey Larson. Cook scored the eventual game-winning run on a groundout by Kristen Davies, and Larson added a valuable insurance run when she scored on a single by Sekowski.

Cook retired the Lady Tigers in order in the seventh, including fanning the final two hitters, to record the complete-game victory.

With the win, West Mifflin improves to 5-5 in Class AAA Section 3, and 10-5 overall. In the setback, McKeesport falls to 2-8, and 3-9 overall.
