As a fail-safe, Jeannette moved its 10 a.m. football scrimmage on Aug. 17 against Valley — originally scheduled to be played at home — to Valley Memorial Stadium in New Kensington.

Jeannette’s McKee Stadium is undergoing an artificial turf project that is slightly delayed, and school officials want to give the turf crew from Shaw Sports Turf ample time to finish the job.

The actual turf installation on the multi-purpose field began Thursday.

“The scrimmage was moved based on the progress of the project,” Jeannette Superintendent Matt Jones said. “The district anticipates the project will be completed well before the football home opener against Leechburg on Aug. 30.”

Jeannette’s season-opening game Aug. 23 is at East Allegheny.

The turf surface is expected to be down by Sunday, Jones said, and then the crew will begin to cut and add the center Jayhawks logo, end zone letters and yard-line numbers.

That process took more than a week to finish at Penn-Trafford’s Warrior Stadium.

McKee Stadium has had a natural grass playing surface since 1927.

As in past years, Jeannette will have its training camp on the adjacent grass area at McKee, to the right of the entrance to the stadium.
