Defending champion Mars, which swept the WPIAL Class 2A lacrosse titles a year ago, will start this season’s playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the boys and girls tournaments.

The Mars boys are seven-time defending WPIAL champions, and the girls have won two titles in the past three years.

The Shady Side Academy boys and Mt. Lebanon girls earned the No. 1 seeds in the Class 3A playoffs. The WPIAL revealed the brackets Thursday.

Class 2A starts play Monday, and Class 3A has first-round games Tuesday. The tournaments conclude May 22-23 with championship games at Robert Morris’ Joe Walton Stadium. The two girls brackets include a combined 25 teams. The boys field has 24.
