Moon’s Bill Pfeifer became the first girls soccer coach in WPIAL history to record 500 career wins when his Tigers defeated Blackhawk, 3-0, on Wednesday night.

Elizabeth Gallup scored two goals and Lilly Snyder added one to lead the Tigers (11-1-2, 8-1-2) past the Cougars (6-9, 4-7) in a Section 4-3A game. Serayah Leech recorded the shutout and Sydney Felton, Kendall Dydek and Marina Mollica dished out assists.

Pfeifer, 57, is in his 28th year as a head coach. He is the reigning national coach of the year as awarded by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

While Pfeifer is the first WPIAL coach to reach the milestone, he missed being the first PIAA coach to hit 500 wins by one day. Joe Margusity of Owen J. Roberts won his 500th game when his team beat Perkiomen Valley, 3-1, on Tuesday.

Pfeifer and Margusity squared off in the 2021 state finals. Moon beat Owen J. Roberts, 1-0.
