North Allegheny notebook: Tigers girls soccer stays unbeaten

Emma Schupansky and Ally Ruiz found the back of the net to guide North Allegheny’s girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Butler in a Section 1-4A game Aug. 6.

The Tigers improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in section play.

They have outscored opponents 27-5 this season, including a 13-1 edge in section play.

The team also shut out Pine-Richland, 4-0, on Aug. 30 behind three goals from Abigail Stager and another from Libby Earley. Natalie Rak posted the shutout.

Boys soccer team tops Butler

North Allegheny’s boys soccer team allowed just its third goal of the season but managed to pull out a victory Sept. 5, against Butler.

Nathan Katari, Zack Nash, Graham Kuntz and Leonardo Yu scored in leading the Tigers to a 4-1 win.

Dante Accamando and Ben Waldo combined for the win in net as North Allegheny improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Section 1-4A.

The Tigers have outscored opponents 22-3.

Tigers take down Big Macs

Logan Kushner ran for 167 yards and three touchdowns, leading North Allegheny to a 30-6 victory over Canon-McMillan on Sept. 1, in a rematch of a 2022 Class 6A semifinal. Kushner also threw for 121 yards on 10-of-18 passing, including a touchdown.

“The line blocked amazing, and they did their job the whole night opening up gaps and everything,” Kushner said. “We just executed and had a great game.”

Tigers coach Art Walker Jr. said he was impressed with Kushner’s ability to endure contact when running the football.

“He’s running like a fullback,” Walker Jr. said. “He’s a tough kid. A 200-pound quarterback that stretched strong and tough. I’m super excited for how he played. He put the team on his shoulders at times.”

Zach Welsh also ran for a 6-yard touchdown.

Defensively, Daniel Sellers recovered a fumble, and Khyrin Boyd had an interception for the Tigers (2-0, 1-0), who didn’t allow a point for the first seven quarters of the season.

NA tennis team on a roll

The North Allegheny girls tennis team won its eight straight match Sept. 6 with a 5-0 victory over Hampton.

Lateicia Wessel, Audrey Zheng and Tia Soussou won singles matches in straight sets.

Siya Jain/Rebecca Murphy and Kaitlyn Zeman/Cynthia Li cruised to doubles victories.

The Tigers improved to 8-0 overall and are 3-0 in section play after 5-0 wins over Seneca Valley, Shaler and Mars.

Field hockey team ties Peters Township

Isla Abrams and Addison Burns scored goals to help North Allegheny to a 2-2 tie with Peters Township in a Section 1-3A field hockey match Sept. 6.

The Tigers moved to 1-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in section play.

North Allegheny water polo teams sweep opener

The North Allegheny boys and girls water polo teams won their opening matches Sept. 5 against visiting McDowell.

The NA girls won 15-8 while the boys won 11-3.

The girls were led by Carissa Jones, who had eight goals, and Tori Tieppo, who had three goals.

Camden Wright scored four times, and Jonathan Mowry had two goals for the NA boys.
