Abigail Stager and Fiona Mahan led their girls soccer teams on lengthy playoff runs this season, but their accomplishments stretched beyond the scope of the WPIAL and PIAA.

Stager, a senior forward at North Allegheny, and Mahan, a junior midfielder for Avonworth, received the highest honor by the United Soccer Coaches as both were named to the All-America team.

The all-WPIAL and all-state pair also were USC All-Region selections, joining Upper St. Clair sophomore midfielder Sierra Dupre.

On the boys’ side, senior forward Tristan Ralph of Plum and junior midfielder Tyler Prex were USC All-Region selections.

Stager scored 32 goals and led the Tigers (22-2) to a runner-up finish in the WPIAL. They also advanced to the PIAA 4A semifinals. The Kentucky commit was a finalist for the Moe Rosensteel Award, which goes to the top player in the WPIAL.

Avonworth (21-2-2) won its third straight WPIAL title in Class 2A and finished second in the state led by Mahan, an Alabama commit. She had 15 goals during the regular season.

Upper St. Clair (16-2) won a section title and reached the WPIAL 4A semifinals before falling to eventual champion Fox Chapel, 5-2.

Ralph was the top scorer for Plum (18-2), which earned the No. 1 seed in the WPIAL playoff but lost in the quarterfinals. He had 13 goals and 12 assists.

Seneca Valley (13-1-3) earned the top seed in WPIAL Class 4A but was upset by No. 8 Norwin, the eventual champion, in the quarterfinals, 3-2 in a shootout.

Ralph and Prex were Western PA Soccer Coaches Association Players of the Year, Ralph in 3A and Prex (co-winner with Ryan Galicic of Canon-McMillan) in 4A.

They also are All-WPIAL and all-state players.
