North Allegheny senior Ally Christy will continue her cross country career close to home.

Christy signed a letter of intent to the Duquesne women’s team for the 2019 season Nov. 14.

Christy, who plans to study business, said the school offers the perfect mix of academics and running.

She considered Slippery Rock, Youngstown State and Kent State.

Christy was the only senior starter on a North Allegheny squad that earned WPIAL and PIAA Class AAA titles.

She placed 13th at the WPIAL championship meet (19 minutes, 55 seconds) Oct. 25 at Cal (Pa.) and 69th at the PIAA championship (20:48) Nov. 3 in Hershey.

North Allegheny coach John Neff said Duquesne is a great fit.

“It’s a team that is going to push (her),” he said. “The reputation of the school is awesome.”

Duquesne assistant coach Thomas Slosky expects Christy to contribute.

“With her skill sets, Ally can continue the success the university has built,” he said.

The Dukes placed 15th of 30 at the NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region championship Nov. 9 at Penn State.

North Allegheny graduate Cordon Luoco capped his career on the Duquesne men’s team in impressive fashion.

Luoco, a senior, was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I All-Region after placing 10th at the Mid-Atlantic regional (31:25).

Slosky said the honor came from Luoco’s hard work and dedication.

“This is only the beginning of Cordon’s success in running and anything else he does with his life,” Slosky said.
