Norwin junior Brandi Brozeski pulled off a stunner in the 100-meter hurdles Friday at the 50th Baldwin Invitational.

Brozeski not only broke her personal record, she upset the favorite, South Fayette’s Delaney Schumaker, to win the race.

Brozeski finished in 15.01 seconds. She broke her PR (15.54) twice, running a 15.30 in the prelims.

“This feels so rewarding from all my work throughout the season,” Brozeski said. “My sister (Emily) has the school record of 14.89, and I’d like to break that before I graduate.”

Now her focus is preparing for the WPIAL Class 3A team championship Tuesday and the WPIALs on May 15.

“I have to rest my body but continue to work hard,” Brozeski said. “I thought about winning the race, but I didn’t think it would happen. But I’m very glad that I did.”

Her previous big win was at the 2023 Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association meet.

“The goal is to get to states,” Brozeski said. “Winning a WPIAL would be nice.

“The big difference at Baldwin was the tough competition I faced. It motivated me to run hard.”

She wasn’t the only Norwin athlete to have a good night.

Junior Nicholas Puskar won the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, 4 inches. He just missed clearing 15-2, the school record.

“I’m going to get it and hopefully soon,” Puskar said. “I’ve tried twice to break the record. The wind didn’t help today. I just have to continue to work hard.”

Puskar said his goal for this season is to reach 15-6 and get on the podium at states.

The Knights Luke Simpson won the 1,600, and teammate Enzo Jiancristoforo placed second. Melani Schmidt finished second in the 200, Luke Denny was second in the 400 and Tyler Beck was second in the 30 hurdles.

Schumaker came back to win the 300 hurdles.

South Fayette’s Olivia Renk won the 100 and 200 runs.

Kiski Area senior Eliza Miller won the 800.

Hempfield senior Peyton Murray won the shot put and discus.

“I’m happy to get a win but a little disappointed with my throws,” Murray said. “I was just off a little.”

The Hempfield boys won the 1,600 relay, and Margerette Dougherty won the javelin.

Canon-McMillan’s Colton Dean had a good day. He won the 100 and 300 hurdles and placed third in the long jump.

Norwin won the boys team title with 71.5 points, finishing just ahead of North Allegheny (69.5).

North Allegheny won the girls side with 92 points, outpacing South Fayette (77) and Hempfield (70.5).
