The Penn Hills swim team recently competed at the WPIAL Class 3A championships at Trees Pool. While the Indians didn’t send anyone to Bucknell for the state championships, there was improvement throughout their lineup.

Anthony Sipple placed 21st in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.76 seconds, which was 3 hundredths of a second faster than his seed time. He also finished in 30th place in the 100 back, finishing in 58.89 seconds, beating his seed time of 49.19 seconds.

The Indians’ 200 free relay team — consisting of Sipple, Anthony Collins, Hunter Boyd and Clarke Leonard — finished in 20th place. Penn Hills’ relay team wrapped up the race in 1:35.10 seconds, ahead of its seed time of 1:37.03.

McIntyre competes

Mackenzie McIntyre finished in 18th place in the 60-meter dash at the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association State championship in State College. She finished in a time of 7.91 seconds.

Sendek hits 20 wins

The Broncos may not be moving onto the NCAA Tournament after being bounced in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference tournament by Pepperdine, but Santa Clara coach and Penn Hills graduate Herb Sendek may have the Broncos in the NIT for the third time in four seasons.

The Broncos have won at least 20 games in four straight seasons and have hit the win total five times since Sendek took over before the 2016-17 season. The Broncos lost in the first round of the NIT in 2022 and 2023.

Tamo-Noche makes mark

Alain Tamo-Noche has 45 kills in 37 sets played on the Central State men’s volleyball team. While Central State struggles against Division I opposition, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule has treated the Marauders much better.

Central State is 4-0 in conference and 5-11 overall.

Tamo-Noche is fifth on the team in kills and is second with 26 blocks.
