May was a fruitful month for Mars’ Michael Carmody.

The nationally ranked football recruit added nine FBS scholarships in 31 days. The most recent was an offer from Penn State on Wednesday, the final day of the spring evaluation period for FBS coaches.

Carmody will be a junior in the fall.

Schools in the ACC, Big 10, Big 12 and MAC extended offers to Carmody in May. West Virginia, Akron, Boston College, Duke, Nebraska, Northwestern, Virginia and Virginia Tech also joined a list that already included Pitt and a number of others.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pounder is labeled as a four-star recruit by both Rivals.com and 247sports.com, which ranks him No. 166 overall in the 2020 class.

Carmody played defensive end for Mars last fall and started this winter for the school’s basketball team that won the WPIAL Class 5A title and finished as the state runner-up. He also celebrated an international basketball title in April.
