Penn-Trafford notebook: Alex Turowski headed to NCAA regional

Penn-Trafford grad Alex Turowski, a junior at Fairmont State University, was selected to compete at the NCAA II Atlantic/East regional golf tournament on May 9-11.

The event, hosted by West Liberty University, will be played at the Speidel Golf Club’s Jones Course in Wheeling, W.Va.

The NCAA announced that 80 teams and 32 individuals were selected for the national tournament, vying for a national championship. Of those selections, 20 teams and eight individuals will play at Speidel.

Five teams and two individuals from the regional will qualify for the finals in Winter Garden, Fla., from May 21-25.

Baseball clinches

With one week left in the regular season, the Penn-Trafford baseball team found itself with a one-game lead in Section 1-5A with a 9-1 record (15-1 overall). Fox Chapel and Plum were second with 8-2 marks and Franklin Regional was fourth with a 7-3 record.

The Warriors were scheduled to play a home-and-home series with rival Franklin Regional on May 6-7.

Penn-Trafford has won 13 games in a row and has scored 61 runs and allowed only 11.

The Warriors have a nonsection game scheduled for May 9 at North Allegheny.

Softball finishes 2nd

Penn-Trafford finished Section 2-5A play by blanking Gateway, 17-0, and beating Latrobe, 8-2, in a second-place battle.

The win by the Warriors (8-2, 10-5) avenged an earlier loss to the Wildcats (6-3, 8-8).

The Warriors have scheduled nonsection games against Connellsville (May 6), North Allegheny (May 8) and at Elizabeth Forward (May 9). All are playoff-bound teams.

Battle for lacrosse title

The Penn-Trafford girls lacrosse fell 6-5 to Indiana on May 2 in a battle for the Section 1-2A title. Both teams came in 9-0 in the section.

The Warriors are 14-2 overall and had won 11 consecutive games.

Penn-Trafford recently knocked off Latrobe, 16-4.

Boys lacrosse in 2nd

Penn-Trafford boys’ lacrosse team has been hot.

The Warriors were in second place in Section 1-2A behind South Fayette. They were 8-1 in the section and 12-4 overall. They recently defeated Gateway, 18-0.
