Penn-Trafford notebook: Lineman Zach Tomosovich named to Big 33 roster

Penn-Trafford offensive lineman Zach Tomosovich was one of eight players from the WPIAL selected to play in the 67th Big 33 Football All-Star game May 26 at Cumberland Valley High School.

He will be joined on the squad by Aliquippa’s Cam Lindsay and Brandon Banks, Canon-McMillan’s Kaeden Singleton and Geno Calgaro, North Allegheny’s Khiryn Byrd, Pine-Richland’s Evan Johnson and Bishop Canevin’s Jason Cross.

Tomosovich is committed to play football at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

Basketball teams fall short

The Penn-Trafford boys and girls basketball teams saw their seasons end with first-round WPIAL playoff losses.

The girls lost a heartbreaker to Lincoln Park, 43-42, when Sarah Scott hit the game-winning layup at the buzzer. Maddie Skya had 15 points and Scott added 10 for the Leopards. Olivia Pepple scored 14 points to lead the Warriors (14-9).

The boys lost 72-53 to Thomas Jefferson. Evan Berger scored 18 points, Noah Prosser added 16, Brody Evans dropped 12 and Kane Eggerton and Nicholas Trklja scored 10 points apiece to lead the Jaguars. Evan Gross led the Warriors (11-12) with 12 points.

Warriors fall

It was another tough defeat for the Penn-Trafford ice hockey team. Armstrong scored two late goals and defeated the Warriors, 4-3.

Bryce Kropczynski scored early in the third quarter to give the Warrirors a 3-2 lead. It was his second goal of the game. T.J. Ferguson opened the scoring for the Warriors in the first period.

The Warriors (7-8-2) were set to conclude their season Feb. 26.

Tryouts set

All high school spring sports tryouts and junior high school baseball will be held March 4,

Spring sports include baseball, softball, track and field, boys and girls lacrosse, boys tennis and boys volleyball.

Seventh and eighth grade softball and coed track and field tryouts will be March 18.

Athletes must be cleared to try out. For more information, check with the athletic director.
