Thomas Jefferson scored three goals in the second period and skated to a 5-1 victory against Penn-Trafford on Jan. 16, ending the Warriors’ two-game winning streak.

Freshman goaltender Tyler Funk, who has a goal-against average of 1.74, did not play. Cam Kiste scored the Warriors’ only goal in the first period to tie the score 1-1. The game was marred by a fight in the third period.

Graziano on top of game

Patton Graziano continues to shine for the Penn-Trafford swimming team.

After a Penn-Trafford win over Armstrong in a Jan. 11 meet, the West Virginia-bound senior who signed a letter of intent in December was qualified for all individual events at the WPIAL meet.

The defending WPIAL Class 3A champion in the boys 100-yard freestyle is hoping for PIAA gold this season.

Pepple hits 1,000

Penn-Trafford senior Olivia Pepple reached the 1,000-point milestone Jan. 15 and helped the Warriors to a 51-40 Section 3-5A victory against Latrobe.

Pepple had 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.

Lauren Marton added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors are 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the section.

Pepple, a captain, plans to attend Gannon University.

Wrestlers earn win

The Penn-Trafford wrestling team earned a second Section 3-3A victory on Jan. 17 by defeating West Mifflin, 48-26.

The win set up a showdown with rival Norwin on Jan. 24.

Penn-Trafford received five forfeits and got pins from Cael Ott (139), Tasso Whipple (172) and Aiden Toth (285).

The Warriors (2-2, 4-10) are starting to get healthy and a victory could create a three-way tie for second place with Norwin and Ringgold.

The team competed at the Mid-Winter Mayhem at IUP on Jan. 12 and 13 and finished in 30th place.

Dylan Barrett placed fifth at 107 pounds and Whipple placed eighth at 172.
