The journey to Cumberland Valley kicks off this weekend with the start of the 2024 PIAA football playoffs.
It’s a merger of the district and state playoffs.
Most districts will be hosting their championship or semifinals on Friday or Saturday, while other district champions have been crowned and the focus is now on state gold.
Already three state champs from a year ago have been ousted — Aliquippa in Class 4A, Belle Vernon in 3A and Southern Columbia in 2A.
That leaves St. Joseph’s Prep in 6A, Imhotep Charter (5A a year ago now playing in 6A) and Steelton-Highspire (A last year and 2A this season) still alive for a repeat performance.
The 2024 PIAA championships at Chapman Field at Cumberland Valley High School will take place Dec. 5-7.
