The PIAA overturned a WPIAL decision and ruled Vincentian Academy’s Ethan Embleton eligible to play basketball.

The 6-foot-5 junior transferred in the spring and had his appeal heard Wednesday, said attorney Craig Lee, who represented Embleton. The forward was Montour’s leading scorer last season.

“The evidence District 7 relied upon to rule him ineligible was a stretch at best,” Lee said.

The WPIAL held an eligibility hearing Sept. 19 for Embleton and found his transfer was athletically motivated, in part because he’d participated in an out-of-season game with Vincentian players before transferring. Lee said Embleton applied to Vincentian six weeks before he took part in a summer league game May 31.
