PIAA schedule set for Saturday’s basketball quarterfinals

The first two rounds are in the books in the PIAA basketball playoffs and the WPIAL is holding strong in five of the six classes among boys 6A, 3A, 2A and girls 5A, 4A, A.

WPIAL champion Upper St. Clair and district finalists South Allegheny and Aliquippa are still alive in boys 6A and 3A.

Five District 7 teams are headed to the quarterfinals in boys 2A where the WPIAL is guaranteed a team in the state finals and could possibly have two. Jeannette, Greensburg Central Catholic, Sewickley Academy and OLSH are on the west side of the bracket and Northgate is making noise on the east side.

On the girls front, 5A finalists Peters Township and South Fayette could be setting up a rematch if they both win on Saturday and three district teams — Oakland Catholic, Blackhawk and North Catholic — are state quarterfinals bound.

Only girls Class A has no WPIAL teams remaining as the final four on the west side has been turned into a District 6 block party.
