Pine-Richland gets past Moon to win program’s 4th WPIAL team gymnastics title

Pine-Richland topped the field in the bars and the beam to win the WPIAL team gymnastics championship for the fourth time in program history Friday.

The Rams, who also won in 2009, 2006 and 2003, had a winning score of 148.608, finishing ahead of two-time defending champion Moon (144.167) and Baldwin (143.975). North Allegheny (143.051), West Allegheny (138.466) and Central Valley (136.416) rounded out the top six.

Ana Constantakis (9.775) and Allison Kapanowski (9.725) led the way for Pine-Richland on the bars. Annamaria Samuels (9.300) and Nadia Constantakis (9.175) were the Rams’ top scorers on the beam.

Moon earned the runner-up finish by landing second in the bars and floor and third in the vault and beam. Hayley Bates led the way for the Tigers with a 9.567 on the floor, a 9.5 on the beam and a 9.475 on the vault.

Abby Rexrode was the top performer for third-place Baldwin with a 9.675 on the bars, a 9.667 on the floor, a 9.5 on the vault and a 9.45 on the beam. The Highlanders finished first in the floor exercise.

North Allegheny took the top spot in the vault, led by a 9.575 by Adriana Seese, a 9.55 by Sarah Patterson and a 9.475 by Hannah Seidl.

Moon will host the WPIAL individual championships starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
