When the Pine-Richland gymnastics team has been at full strength this season, it has been tough to beat.
With their full roster, the Rams (3-2) dispatched Moon, Central Valley and West Allegheny. When short-handed, the team dropped its tri-meet against Baldwin and Thomas Jefferson.
Luckily for coach Alex Jewart, everyone is healthy as the team enters the stretch run. Before the WPIAL team finals 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Moon, Pine-Richland will participate in one more regular-season meet against Burrell, Hampton and North Allegheny.
“We’re excited for our next meet,” Jewart said. “Hopefully it’s a strong showing that will catapult us into the team championships. If we can get our whole lineup involved, we have a shot to be a contender at the team title event.
“If we can put everybody out there, we’re definitely going to be one of the top teams to contend with. There’s no doubt in my mind. Our scores have been pretty high when everybody is there.”
Seniors Tali Klass and Samantha DeVinney are co-captains. Klass contributes in the vault, beam and floor exercise, and DeVinney participates in the vault and floor exercise.
From a scoring perspective, the Rams’ strongest contributor has been Maddie Komoroski. The freshman has been turning heads all season as an all-around gymnast.
“She’s a star,” Jewart said.
“She’s going to be one of the top kids in the WPIAL this year. She’s a very talented gymnast with Division I prospects. She’s already being looked at by several Division I schools, which is big. She can do it all out there.”
Junior Bria Reinert has carved out her position as the second-highest scorer on the team with high marks as an all-around performer.
The Rams also have received notable contributions from junior Adrianna Avolio and sophomores Sidney Jones and Madison Abbate. Freshman Madi Alexander has put in solid scores in the vault, bars and beam events.
