Andrew Petcash considered Boston University basketball an option for after prep school, but his timeline just became much shorter.
The Terriers had a scholarship come available this summer, so the recent Pine-Richland graduate will head directly to Boston this fall rather than attend New Hampton School in New Hampshire. Petcash visited the campus last week, worked out for the coaches and received an immediate offer from coach Joe Jones.
“Boston was a school I would have taken next year even,” he said, “so I was like, why would I wait a year? I want to go now.”
Petcash waited until Monday to share his commitment publicly after completing admissions process.
The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 20 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season for Pine-Richland, the WPIAL Class 6A champion and state runner-up. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Terrific 10 and graduated as the second-leading scorer in school history.
Boston (18-14, 12-6) tied for second in the Patriot League last season.
“It's a really good fit for me,” Petcash said. “They play up tempo, they like to push the ball … and they shoot a bunch of 3s. I think it matches my game pretty well.”
