North Allegheny (Class 3A) and Shaler (Class 2A) maintained their No. 1 positions in their respective classifications as the Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association released its Week 2 WPIAL boys volleyball top-10 polls Monday morning.

Even with nine starters returning, Shaler softball coach Tom Sorce was hesitant to describe exactly what this year’s team will be like. The Titans finished 15-4 last season and bowed out in the WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinals to Penn-Trafford.

Shaler swimmers set big goals for postseason meets

Grace Melocchi has been swimming year-round since she was little. One of the long-term goals of the Shaler senior swimmer surfaced when she made it to middle school. With Melocchi’s form in the pool, a coach mentioned that she would have a realistic shot at setting the school’s record in the 100 breaststroke.
