Solid season for Pine-Richland boys golf

The Pine-Richland boys golf team took third place at the WPIAL Class AAA team golf championships at Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon on Oct. 12, posting a score of 396 that trailed Peters Township (391) and first-place Central Catholic (386).
Things went smoothly for the Rams on the front nine, coach Jeff Seybert said, but on the back nine, the Indians and Vikings pulled away.
“We were a couple strokes under on the front, and we were kind of in the driver's seat,” Seybert said.
“Then, when we got to the back nine, we struggled a little more, and it kind of set us behind. Peters Township and Central came up and had some kids shoot low scores on the back nine, and they ended up taking it and building a lead.”
The third-place finish for Pine-Richland gives Seybert and his golfers plenty to be proud of, the coach said. But they entered the team championship with the goal of winning, so coming up short left a stinging effect.
“They know that they could've done a little bit better, they're their own harshest critics because they know how well they can play,” Seybert said. “I was very pleased with them. They feel like they may have let each other down a little bit right now, but overall, we're very happy with third place.
“We're a relatively young team. It was great to get there and get that learning experience.”
Junior Rico Sciulli led Pine-Richland with a 74. Senior and team captain Jack Wymard finished right behind Sciulli, collecting a score of 79.
Pine-Richland's team season is over. Sciulli and Donnie Professori played in the PIAA Western Regional on Monday at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville.
