Shady Side and Sewickley Keep the Academy’s Golden in WPIAL Boys Team Tennis

Since 2004, Sewickley Academy has sat atop the WPIAL Boys Team Tennis Double A classification as champion. Call it a Golden Decade. The streak continued Thursday as the Panthers captured their 10th straight district team tennis crown with a victory over Mars. It's not as long, but in Class AAA, Shady Side Academy swept past North Allegheny to win a 3rd consecutive tennis title for the Indians. North Allegheny and Washington Win Gold in the 2013 WPIAL Boys Team Track & Field Finals
An old-new champion was crowned in Class AAA Thursday at Baldwin High School in the boys team track finals. It is the 9th WPIAL team championship for North Allegheny, but only the Tigers first in five years. NA knocked out two-time defending champion Hempfield en route to the gold. In Class AA, Washington won its second straight district title, the 4th AA team track championship overall for the Little Prexies. Hempfield and South Fayette are the Golden Girls of WPIAL Team Track & Field in 2013
Hempfield won their first WPIAL girls team track championship in 1984 and waited 27 years for their second crown. The wait for a third district title was a bit shorter...12 month to be exact as the Spartans won gold for a second consecutive season Thursday at Baldwin High School. Meanwhile, South Fayette captured the schools first ever girls team track gold by edging Beaver, Southmoreland and two-time defending champion Freeport. Hometown Softball Program Game Recap For Baldwin vs Bethel Park
The 2013 WPIAL playoffs started a little early Thursday in the South Hills as Baldwin visited Bethel Park in a win-and-your-in battle for third place in Class AAAA Section 4. When all was said and done, youth was served again as the freshmen led Highlanders knocked out the Black Hawks 9-5.Baldwin broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when after Jaimie Schleicher reached on an error, Kayla Ebert's pop fly fell safely when Bethel Park second baseman Julia Sherwin lost it in the sun. Abbey Suhoski tripled home both, then scored on a ground ball to the shortstop.The Highlanders added to their lead in the fourth inning on the first of three triples by Eberst scored Breanna Meyer who led the inning off with a single.

SSA’s Nimgaonkar/Grubbs and Sewickley’s Kleeman/Kaye Win WPIAL Doubles Tennis Gold

A year ago, Alok Nimgaonkar and Chris Grubbs of Shady Side Academy won the WPIAL Class AAA Boys Doubles Tennis championship while the duo of William Kleeman and Patrick Dellinger from Sewickley Academy won Class AA titles. This year, Nimgaonkar, Grubbs and Kleeman are repeat winners. It wasn't easy, but Nimgaonkar and Grubbs knocked off Fox Chapel's Sid Rajupet and Ben Short to win the AAA titles while Kleeman teams with Colin Kaye to win AA gold with a straight set win Tuesday over Josh Raymundo and Aaron Gruber of Mars.
