NCAA Division II and III Football Playoff Fields Announced
Two district college teams have qualified for the 2012 NCAA football playoffs.In Division II, Indiana University of Pennsylvania will make their first trip to the post-season since 2007. The IUP Crimson Hawks, 10-1, are seeded third in Super Region I and will host 8-2 Shepherd. This match up is a rematch of a 2007 Quarterfinals game won by the Rams. Shepherd won the WVIAC title, clinching a berth with a victory Saturday over Fairmont State. In Division III, 8-2 Washington & Jefferson received the automatic berth from the PAC after beating Waynesburg Saturday. The Presidents will travel to 9-1 Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Johns Hopkins was the Centennial Conference champion. That game can be heard right here on the MSA Sports Network.

District College Football Recap for Saturday, November 10th

On the final full week of college football in the district, championships were decided in the PSAC and PAC and two teams posted historical wins.....Could one of those teams be Lock Haven, read more to find out.The NCAA will post playoff fields in both D-II and D-III later today, here are recaps of all the games, including 3 heard here on the Network:PSAC State Title Game:  IUP 41 - Shippensburg 10 The 13th ranked Crimson Hawks held Division II's number one offense to just 10 points as IUP claimed the PSAC title and likely an NCAA playoff berth with the win at George P. Miller Stadium.

District College Football Preview for Saturday, November 9th – 11/09/2012
It's the final week of the regular season for Division II and Division III, while the NEC has one more week.The PSAC will have the State Title Game with an NCAA berth likely to the winner, the PAC has Rivarly Week with the Backyard Brawl deciding the conference title.Here are previews of ALL the games, including 3 that can be heard on the network.Bloomsburg(9-1) at Slippery Rock(6-4)  1 pm on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network. # 12 Bloomsburg is fighting for a NCAA playoff berth and needs a win to cement that spot. The Huskies defeated West Chester 24-23 last week. Bloomsburg's only loss is to Shippensburg. The Huskies are 4th in the NCAA Super Region 1 rankings.

Mayo Steps Down at Shenango

The Shenango Wildcats are looking for a new football coach. Ryan Mayo annouced his resignation after 6 years at the helm. The Cats finished 3-6 this season.Mayo was hired in March of 2007, he compiled a 21-34 record at Shenango and did not make the playoffs in his term. The Wildcats were 7-18 at home over the same period and will carry an 8 game home losing streak into 2013.The resignation will not become official until the Shenango school board meets on Monday.

Peters, Mars and Greensburg CC are the Golden Girls in WPIAL Soccer Again
Sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men do work out in the end. No, there are not any mice on the WPIAL Soccer Steering Committee, however the men and women who put together this years girls soccer postseason brackets knew what they were doing. It was #1 vs. #2 in all three championship finals, with all three top-seeds winning the gold. Canon-Mac, Quaker Valley & Riverside Surprising 2012 WPIAL Boys Soccer Champions
When all was said and done, three unlikely champions were draped in gold on top of the district boys soccer mountain. #13 Canon-McMillan in Class AAA, #4 Quaker Valley in Class AA and #10 Riverside in Class A all bucked the odds to win a soccer title, the first in school history for the Big Macs and Panthers and the seventh boys soccer crown for the Quakers. Mt. Lebanon, Mars & Greensburg CC Win 2012 WPIAL Girls Volleyball Championships
Two schools celebrated first time girls volleyball championships while another won a sixth crown out of the #5-seed. Mount Lebanon captured the Class AAA title, their second in four years, out of the fifth-seed. The Blue Devils also won district gold in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2007 and 2009. Meanwhile, special first-time champions were crowned in Class AA as Mars knocked off defending champion Hopewell, and in Class A as Greensburg Central Catholic went from wire to wire at #1. Here are the players that shined the brightest on the first night on the grand stage.Tyler Roth - Mount LebanonThere was a lot of excitement about Butler making the WPIAL football playoffs for the first time since 1998. However their stay in the postseason was short and not so sweet thanks to the aerial attack by Tyler Roth and Mount Lebanon. Roth hit on 20 of 27 passes for 288 yards and a pair of touchdown tosses as the Blue Devils blew away the Golden Tornado 31-7 in a Class AAAA opening round matchup.Thomas Woodson - Gateway
