The 2011 WPIAL Boys Singles Tennis Championships produced two very different types of champions at the end of a blustery day at Norwin High School. In Class AA, Winchester Thurston's Daniel Goldblum picked up where he left off in 2009, cruising through the AA bracket and defeating Mount Pleasant's David Cenkner 6-2, 6-4.Scholastic Notebook – 04/16/2011
Come late May, dont be surprised if the Elizabeth Forward baseball players turn into Champs champs. The Elizabeth Forward baseball program continues to rise under seventh-year coach Frank Champ. It was in the mid 1970s and young Riverside High School baseball coach Dan Oliastro drafted a letter of resignation. There are 500 reasons why Riverside is glad Oliastro never handed in that letter to the school board. Two players from perennial power Mt. Lebanon and three sophomores highlight the 2011 MSA Sports All-Netters team. The team is made up of the top 10 players in the WPIAL and split into a first- and second-team. The squad was selected by the MSA Sports staff. The 2011 WPIAL softball season is set to begin on Friday, March 25th. Two district teams are defending STATE champions in Mount Lebanon and Chartiers-Houston, while the Blue Devils, Montour Spartans, Valley Vikings and Vincentian Academy Royals now begin defense of their WPIAL titles, even though the Vikings have moved up from Class AA to Class AAA.WPIAL Baseball – 2011 Season Preview
The first pitch of the 2011 WPIAL baseball season is set to be tossed on Friday, March 25th. While there were no state champions from the district in 2010, Pine-Richland, Hopewell, Beaver Falls and Serra Catholic now begin defense of their WPIAL titles.
