As the college football season continues, the conference races begin to become a little clearer. This week Mercyhurst and Cal post wins as they look forward to a battle for the PSAC West title. Waynesburg stays on top of the PAC standings. and Duquesne takes a huge hit in their bid to repeat as NEC champions.Here are recaps of All the games:Slippery Rock 28 – Clarion 20 The Rock ended a 3 game losing streak and claimed the Milk Jug for a 4th straight year with the win at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. It was a bloated Saturday of WPIAL football action with seven games on the docket. So since we are in Stetch Run mode, we don't have to feel guilty about enjoying extra pleasures and get a little bloated on great performances from the Seventh Saturday of the season.Connor Slomka and Ernest Williams - Pine-RichlandLike any great duo through the years, one delivers the early shots while the other comes in and finishes the deal. From 1998 through 2001, Burgettstown captured four straight WPIAL Division II championships. They hadn't won one since, but the eleven year drought ended Thursday as the Blue Devils captured the Class AA crown with Owen Miller leading the way with a 74. This weekend begins the MSA Sports 'Stretch Run' to the 2012 WPIAL football regular season. The final three weeks in which you will here plenty of talk with these words and phrases: Conference champions; Home field advantage; Playoff positioning; Staying alive; Controlling your own destiny; wild card and of course, the dreaded Gardner points. Bottom line is these final three weeks will help set up the brackets for the eventual drive on the Highway to Heinz.We will break down the WPIAL football playoff picture each week over the next couple of weeks, with each break down being more specific in what needs to happen for all teams involved. Welcome to Week 7 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks, in her travels this week, noticed several signs for an annual UFO Conference scheduled to take place in the area. Week 7 of the College Football season continues with some good match ups this weekend. Conference play rolls on in the NEC, PSAC and PAC, along with the WVIAC and the NCAC.Here are previews of All the games, including 3 that can be heard right here on the Network:Slippery Rock(2-4) at Clarion(3-3) 1pm on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network Both teams are 1-2 in PSAC West divisional play. Slippery Rock leads the all-time series 47-23-3 and has won the last 6 meetings. SRU lost last week to IUP 33-18. The Rock has dropped 3 straight games. The final third of the 2012 season starts this weekend and you can be sure MSA will provide the finest escort to you as you get set to embark on your own personal “Highway to Heinz”. With the two largest classifications each taking a wild-card into the post season the super –knowledge that Don Rebel doles out each Friday night will save you tons of sleep.
