Seven games were played under more fall like conditions as Week Four came to an end on Saturday. Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures greeted players from 14 WPIAL and 2 Pittsburgh City League teams in the afternoon while pleasant conditions were the backdrop for the lone evening contest. The 2010 WPIAL Girls High School Tennis Singles Championships were held Friday afternoon at Pine-Richland High School with bright beautiful sunshine and a strong blustery wind. For a fall day, the girls had no worries of rain or cold temperatures, but the wind was a problem all afternoon.

WPIAL Week 4 Friday Football Scores

Power outages throughout the South Hills of Pittsburgh from a storm on Wednesday forced the Hopewell-Mount Lebanon game to move to Baldwin High School. That game was one of several games pitting top teams from Class AAAA against elite teams from Class AAA on the fourth Friday of the high school football season. Here are all the results from around District 7 and District 8.

Call it the storm after the storm as the fourth week of the 2010 District 7 and District 8 high school football season kicked off Thursday. Chicks Picks – Week 4 – 2010

Welcome to Week 4 of the high school football season. Chick's Picks made an appearance at MSA Sports World Headquarters last Friday for the first time this season. Much to her surprise, however, she was not missed over the first two weeks. The control center was functioning smoothly--nearly perfect--causing Chick's Picks to feel unnecessary.

District College Football Preview for Saturday, September 25th

It's Week 4 of the district college football slate, and conference play is underway in full swing in the Northeast and Missouri Valley. Divisional play starts in the PSAC with a great matchup in Indiana, and it's the second week of conference action in the PAC. Here are previews of all this weekend's action:

Injuries seem to have stolen the spotlight here in the 2010 WPIAL football season, dramatic injuries to big-time star players in so many classifications have served notice to a lot of coaches and teams that in high school football as in life, everything can change in the blink of an eye, or the turn of an ankle.

WPIAL Individual Golf Qualifiers

The 2010 WPIAL Individual Golf championships are next week for Boys Division II and in two weeks for Boys Division I and the Girls. The district is holding qualifiers this week to determine the participants. The top five boys golfers at each site plus those who come within 10 strokes of the course rating advance to the WPIAL Semifinals.

Altoona Curve Win First Ever Eastern League Championship

September 19, 2010

The Altoona Curve clinched its first Eastern League Championship in its 12-year existence with a, 5-2, win over the Trenton Thunder on Saturday night at Waterfront Park. Tony Watson (2-0) notched the win while Jim Negrych went 3-for-5 with three RBI.
