The state House of Representatives recognized Vincentian Academy’s baseball team for its PIAA championship during a ceremony Thursday in Harrisburg.

Speaker of the House Mike Turzai, whose son Stephen pitched for the Royals, welcomed coach Brad Bestic and his players to the House floor. Vincentian won the PIAA Class A title June 15 with a 5-3 victory over Southern Fulton.

“We’re so proud of these kids. I know them like family,” Turzai said, “so I’m very, very appreciative that you would take the time to hear about their second state championship in three years.”

Vincentian also won a PIAA title in 2016.

Turzai represents a northern Allegheny County district that includes McCandless, where Vincentian is located.
