The number of WPIAL playoff spots available is shrinking fast after Friday nights high school football action. There are only four WPIAL games on Saturday, all of which have some sort of playoff implication. It used to be a fitting name because most of the teams in the conference were from the Eastern area. The beat continued in Class A last year as powers Clairton and Rochester met at Heinz Field for the third time in the last six years. After a hectic finish decided on a missed two-point conversion, the Bears edged the Rams 14-13 and celebrated back-to-back WPIAL crowns and their third district title in the past four year.
