Hometown Softball Recap – Baldwin Highlanders – 05/04/2016
May 4, 2016
As the old rock group Bachman Turner Overdrive once sang, Baldwin on senior day was 'Taking Care of Business' as they stayed on the heels of the AAAA-4 first place Canon-McMillan Big Macs with a 14-0 whitewash of the Upper St. Clair Panthers Tuesday evening. Baldwin scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Senior Jaime Schleicher continued her amazing season (now hitting .750) with an RBI single to score Taylor Dadig to get the party started. Senior Ana Hale delivered an RBI single, two runs scored on wild pitches and Addy Tagg drove in a pair with a single as the Highlanders sent ten to the plate against starter Lillian Caudill of USC.

Hometown Softball Recap – Baldwin Highlanders – 04/21/2016
April 21, 2016
A outcome of a critical Class Quad-A Section 4 showdown changed in a matter of just a few moments, as the Canon-McMillan Big Macs used a few key plays to notch a 5-1 victory against the host Baldwin Highlanders on Wednesday. With the Highlanders threatening in the bottom of the fourth inning, Baldwin appeared to tie the game at 2-2 on a sacrifice fly by Anastasia Hale that plated Samantha Wampler from third. An appeal by Canon-McMillan resulted in Wampler being called out, however, as the umpires determined that she left the bag before the ball was caught in center field. As a result, the inning concluded and the lead remained intact for Canon-McMillan.

Baldwin Beats NA Again For WPIAL AAA Girls Volleyball Title
Before a standing room only crowd at Baldwin High School, the home-standing Highlanders won their second consecutive WPIAL Class AAA championship with a 3-2 victory over the North Allegheny Tigers Saturday evening. It was a rematch of last year’s five-set thriller and again the Highlanders were able to outlast the Tigers in five electric sets. Baldwin claimed the title by set scores of 21-25, 25-18, 14-25, 25-22 and 15-12. After splitting the first two sets, North Allegheny seemed to seize control with a thorough 25-14 win in the third set. Michigan State recruit Lauren Swartz picked up three kills in the set, on her way to a 14-kill performance.

WPIAL Friday Night HighLights – Week Two 2015
September 12, 2015
While Mother Nature held off on the fancy sky light shows and the rain that plagued many games on opening night, the second Friday of the season was an historic one in two ways. First, a tip of the cap 700 times to the Jeannette Jayhawks for becoming only the second district school and sixth school in Pennsylvania to mass that many wins. And one win has eluded Thomas Jefferson in the first two weeks of a season for the first time in the 21-year golden career of head coach Bill Cherpek. It was also a memorable Friday for these young men: Phil Jurkovec - Pine-Richland

CTK 2015 – Class AAAA Southeastern Conference Preview
August 18, 2015
After what happened in 2014, maybe there should be some consideration given to changing the WPIAL Class AAAA eight-team conference known as the Southeastern Conference with six schools south of the city of Pittsburgh and two in the eastern suburbs to the Eastsouthern Conference. The two east schools were beast a year ago after Penn Hills Week 9 upset of highly ranked rival Woodland Hills left the Indians and Wolverines as conference co-champs with 6-1 section records. While the same named SEC in the college ranks has been called the strongest in the nation, the same can not be said about the District 7 version. While teams from the Southeastern Conference won three WPIAL championships in a four year span from 2005 to 2008, it has hit a postseason drought since.

Hometown Softball Recap for Baldwin Highlanders – 04/18/2015
April 18, 2015
It was the perfect night for a softball game. Clear, calm and cool -- Arguably the demeanor of the junior pitcher for Baldwin, Jaimie Schleicher. Although Peters Township did score a run in the 7th inning, the late rally wasn't enough as the Highlanders defeated the Indians 2-1 at Baldwin High School. Schleicher started the game perfect through 3 and two-thirds innings with 5 strikeouts. She also helped offensively in the bottom of the 3rd, hitting an RBI-single, allowing freshman Taylor Dadig to score after she singled and stole a base.

Hometown Softball Recap for Baldwin Highlanders – 04/16/2015
April 16, 2015
Rachel Hankin and Rachel Albert hit back-to-back solo home runs in the 6th inning, lifting Bethel Park (5-3, 4-1) to a 2-1 win over Baldwin (5-1, 4-1) on Wednesday night at Baldwin High School. The blasts were the lone blemishes for Highlanders' pitcher and Pitt-Greensburg recruit Jamie Schleicher, who allowed just four hits and struck out eleven batters in the complete game loss. Schleicher would retire the first eight Bethel Park batters, give up a single to Hankin in the 4th inning and then retire eight more batters in a row, before Hankin, the nine-hitter in the Blackhawks' lineup, would launch a ball over the right field wall. Moments later, Bethel Park's leadoff hitter, Albert, would follow up with a shot of her own over the center field fence.

Scholastic Notebook – 02/06/2015
February 6, 2015
Penn State football coach James Franklin lost out on the top player in the WPIAL class of 2015 when Central Valley’s Jordan Whitehead signed with Pitt. Other than Whitehead, Penn State had plenty of success in the WPIAL. At least more than the Nittany Lions have had in recent history. Penn State signed four players from the WPIAL this season. That might not seem like a lot, but it is more than the past four classes combined. In fact, only twice in the past 10 years has Penn State landed four or more players from the WPIAL. In 2010, Penn State signed five WPIAL players and four in 2007. Two of the past four years, Penn State did not sign one WPIAL player.
