CTK 2012 – WPIAL AA Midwestern Conference Preview

Class AA saw some changes after the WPIAL realignment but the Midwestern Athletic Conference stayed almost entirely intact from 2011. Only the Laurel Spartans dropped back to Class A, leaving the MAC an eight team field for the next two seasons. Aliquippa has won or shared the conference title for the last three seasons and eight of the last ten, they also reigns as WPIAL champions. The Quips lost some key members, but are always in the hunt for championship gold. Once again, the MAC teams will cross over with members of the AAA Parkway Conference, that could lead to some interesting match ups and some really ugly games, you be the judge. This next statement seems awfully strange: Either Beaver or Trinity will be in the WPIAL Class AAA boys basketball Semifinals. As strange as that sounds, it is true. Beaver and Trinity play in a Quarterfinals game Friday night, and one of them will move on to next Tuesday’s Semifinals. History says how Beaver and Trinity playing in a Semifinals game is unheard of. Trinity has never been to a Semifinals game before, and the Hillers won a grand total of six playoff games in school history. Two of those were this year. The others came last year, one in 2010 and two in 1984. Beaver, meanwhile, has made it to the Semifinals only once in school history. That was in 1987. The Bobcats have only six playoff wins in school history – two this year, two in 1987, one in 1982 and one in 1977.WPIAL Boys and Girls Basketball Realignment for 2013 and 2014

The WPIAL Board of Control Tuesday approved the new basketball alignments for both the boys and girls for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 high school winter sports seasons. Here is the new section break down in each classification for both the boys and the girls.WPIAL schools moving up in class for the next two seasons are New Castle boys, Hampton boys, Trinity boys, Freeport boys, Ellwood City boys, Steel Valley boys, Elderton boys, Bentworth boys, Laurel Highlands girls, Chartiers Valley girls, Southmoreland girls, Brownsville girls, Waynesburg girls, Keystone Oaks girls, Quaker Valley girls, Riverview girls, Chartiers-Houston girls and Fort Cherry girls.
